Our Local History
Our locations:
A new congregation, Middleburg church of Christ, began on Sunday, January 10, 1982. A total of 40 met for the first time in the new Middleburg High School Band room. The men of the congregation along with men from local churches of Christ preached for us.
The congregation searched for property to build a meeting place; the property on CR220 was bought in 1983. The members along with friends from surrounding congregations helped to build the first building. We worshiped for the first time in the building in February 1984. As we grew, we added additional classrooms to the building.
By the mid 1990s we had outgrown the building on CR220 so we found our present location at 3155 CR 215 . It was a church building that had been converted into a nursing home. We made the changes needed to convert it into a place of worship for us. We began worshiping here in 1996 .
Preachers who have worked with us over the years:
- Denny Freeman was the first full time evangelist from 1983 to 1987.
- Fred Liggin was with us from 1987 to 1989.
- Rick Billingsley worked with us from 1989 to 1997.
- Jeff Harward worked with us from 1997 until the fall of 2003.
- Daryl Townsend was our full time preacher from January 2004 until September 2005. Daryl became heavily involved with the prison ministry and while still worshiping with us today devotes his time to working with area prisons.
- Joe Shane worked with us from June 2006 through October 2014.
- Jerry Crolius began working with us in April, 2016.
Throughout our history we have been blessed to have men serve as shepherds, but from 2003 until 2021 we had no men able or qualified to serve in that important work. We rejoice that on June 13, 2021 Jerry Crolius and Daryl Townsend were appointed as shepherds for the church.
